Kaoru Mitoma is a Japanese professional football (soccer) player who plays in the Left Winger position in Premier League at Brighton and Hove Albion. He can also play on the left side of the midfield.
Present and Early Career
Mitoma was born in Kanagawa and was raised in the Kawasaki region, where he joined the Frontale academy at just ten years old. He turned down the opportunity to move up to the senior team under Yahiro Kazama and join the University of Tsukuba, a dominant university football program in Japan.
Mitoma agreed to a professional contract with the Kawasaki Frontale senior team beginning 2020 in July 2018. He made his official pro debut on the first matchday of the 2020 J1 League and quickly established himself as the first rookie since Yoshinori Muto to reach double digits in goals in the first division.
Kaoru then decided to move to the bigger stage and signed a four-year contract with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion on 10 August 2021, joining Union SG on loan for the first year.
Mitoma made his Premier League debut for Brighton on August 13, 2022, coming on as a 75th-minute substitute for Leandro Trossard in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle United at the Falmer Stadium.
